Core Web Vitals for WordPress without the theater

What to measure first, what to ignore, and how to keep editors from undoing your wins.

Measure what moves the needle

LCP, INP, and CLS are useful when they reflect real user pain—not when they become a performance cosplay contest. Start with field data from Search Console and a handful of high-traffic templates before you chase lab scores on low-value pages.

Fix the theme, fonts, and hero image pipeline first. Most WordPress CWV regressions are asset and layout discipline problems, not missing plugins.

Protect wins from editors

Document which blocks and embeds are allowed, cap autoplay and heavy iframes, and give editors a short checklist before publish. Prevention beats emergency remediation after a marketing push.
